What are SmartBills?
A SmartBill is an electronic version of your bill that we retrieve directly from your payee's Web site and display for you online in the Paytrust Bill Center. With SmartBills almost any online bill can now be presented to you conveniently through one easy-to-use interface - Paytrust!

What are the advantages of SmartBills?

With SmartBills, you may continue to receive your paper statements at home - or, depending on your payee's capabilities, have the paper turned off - you decide! And by not having to redirect your paper bills to the Paytrust Processing Center, your payee will be able to maintain your home address on file so that non-bill related information (such as replacement credit cards or announcements of special sales) can be mailed directly to you at home.

When registering a payee for SmartBills, which User ID & Password do I enter?
When adding or editing a SmartBill-enabled payee to your Paytrust account, you will be prompted to enter your login information for that payee’s Web site - exactly as you would if you were accessing your account at their Web site. If you are not yet registered for online access to your account through the payee’s Web site, please take a moment to do so before continuing with the SmartBill setup process. Note that you should enter your User ID and Password (or other requested information) for the payee’s Web site - not your Paytrust User ID and Password.

Is the login information for my payees’ Web sites kept private/secure?
Paytrust is committed to safeguarding the privacy and security of all of your personal information. Your login information is kept confidential, and is used only to retrieve an electronic version of your bill from the payee’s Web site so that we can present it to you online within the Paytrust Bill Center. For your security, the login credential information you enter is encrypted using 56-bit or 128-bit encryption.

Which billing address is used for SmartBill-enabled payees?
Enabling Paytrust to securely retrieve SmartBills from your payee’s Web site eliminates the need to change your address on file with that payee and redirect your paper bill to the Paytrust Processing Center. Maintaining your home address on file with the payee is especially advantageous for credit card payees, as you won’t need to remember your Paytrust billing address when conducting online shopping transactions. You won’t need to worry about distinguishing between your billing and shipping addresses, or being asked to provide this extra information in order to verify your identity with the payee. Furthermore, all non-bill related information (such as replacement credit cards or announcements of special sales) from SmartBill-enabled payees can be mailed to you directly at your home or service address.

I registered a payee for SmartBills. Why am I receiving the paper bill at home?
Some payees may continue to send a paper bill to your home even after you begin receiving the bill online. To avoid making duplicate payments, it is best to pay only those bills that arrive online in the Paytrust Bill Center. If a duplicate paper bill is received at the Paytrust Processing Center, it will be scanned and presented to you as a notice (rather than a bill), and a Change of Address form will be issued requesting that your paper bill be redirected to your service address. Some payees may offer the option of "turning off" the paper bill - either by indicating such a preference on their Web site, or by contacting their Customer Service department via phone or email.

When I switch an existing payee from scanned bills to SmartBills, what happens to the paper bills that were previously redirected to Paytrust?
When you setup a payee for SmartBills, your next billing statement should arrive in the new SmartBill digital format. A Change of Address notice will be sent to your payee, requesting that your paper bill be redirected to your home or service address. If a duplicate paper bill is received at the Paytrust Processing Center, it will be scanned and presented to you as a notice (rather than a bill). Some payees may offer the option of "turning off" the paper bill - either by indicating such a preference on their Web site, or by contacting their Customer Service department via phone or email.

Are payments to SmartBill-enabled payees made electronically?
The fact that a payee is enabled for the presentation of SmartBills is not necessarily an indication that they can accept payments via electronic funds transfer (EFT). SmartBill presentation and EFT payment are distinctly separate technology initiatives. Depending on the particular payee’s capabilities, payments are issued either electronically or via paper check.
